Έγινε και φέτος η 60η απονομή των Emmy Awards, σε μία φαντασμαγορική τελετή η οποία φιλοξενήθηκε στο Nokia Theater του Los Angeles και προβλήθηκε από το ABC. Παρουσιαστές της βραδιάς ήταν οι υποψήφιοι για το βραβείο Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition Program, Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst και Ryan Seacrest. Μεγάλος νικητής της βραδιάς ήταν η ιστορική μίνι σειρά του HBO “John Adams”, η οποία απέσπασε 5 βραβεία, συμπεριλαμβανομένου και του Outstanding Miniseries και έφτασε αισίως τα 13, μαζί με τα 8 των Creative Arts Emmy, γεγονός που αποτελεί ρεκόρ για τον θεσμό. Επίσης τα Mad Men και 30 Rock απέσπασαν τα βραβεία Outstanding Drama Series και Outstanding Comedy Series αντίστοιχα, με τους πρωταγωνιστές του 30 Rock, Alec Baldwin και Tina Fey να κερδίζουν και τα αντίστοιχα βραβεία ηθοποιίας. Φυσικά από τα αποτελέσματα δεν έλειψαν και οι σχετικές εκπλήξεις, άλλες μεγαλύτερες, άλλες μικρότερες, με τους Ζeljiko Ivanek (Damages), Jean Smart (Samantha Who?) και Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) να κερδίζουν τα βραβεία που ήταν υποψήφιοι. Τέλος η Glenn Close (Damages) προσέθεσε άλλο ένα βραβείο στην πλούσια συλλογή της (Outstanding Lead Actress).
